BRANDSTORM COMPETITION

When I first came upon the notion of consciousness, it was during my senior year at High School, in the class of Philosophy. Throughout the academic year, we came upon chapters like the state of Consciousness, but also the Unconscious Mind and Reason (La Raison) . One thing I remember during those lessons, was a familiar quote from René Descartes, one I’ve seen countless times on notebooks and pencil cases, during my childhood: Here, the french artist Benjamin Vautier , known as ‘Ben’ , is referring to the famous saying from Descartes in his Discourse on Method (1637) « Cogito Ergo Sum. », which means ‘I am conscious, therefore I am’ .
